Baykar Showcases AI-Powered Swarm Combat Drones

(MENAFN) Turkish defense manufacturer Baykar has presented its newest generation of domestically developed autonomous combat drones during a coordinated swarm exercise conducted ahead of their scheduled public introduction at the SAHA 2026 defense exhibition, which will take place in Istanbul next month.

The K2 Kamikaze UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) and the Sivrisinek loitering munition were demonstrated operating in tightly synchronized, AI-driven swarm formations during a recent trial held at the company’s Kesan Test Center. The exercise began with five K2 Kamikaze UAVs lifting off and maneuvering in intricate flight patterns, before being joined by a larger group of ten Sivrisinek loitering munitions.

Throughout the operation, Baykar’s larger combat platforms, including the Bayraktar TB2, TB3, and Akinci drones, provided aerial support by monitoring and documenting the activity from above. The coordinated systems successfully executed navigation, positioning, and targeting tasks entirely without reliance on Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), instead depending on advanced artificial intelligence-based visual navigation technologies.

This AI-enabled system allows the swarm to continue identifying and engaging targets autonomously even in environments where GPS signals are disrupted or deliberately jammed. The Sivrisinek loitering munition, in particular, represents a significant expansion in operational capability, featuring a strike range exceeding 1,000 kilometers (621.3 miles).
