Russia Says It Captured Another Ukrainian Settlement

(MENAFN) Russia claimed Thursday that its forces had seized yet another settlement in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region, tightening its grip on one of the conflict's most strategically contested fronts.

A statement from Russia's Defense Ministry said its troops had taken control of the village of Yarova, located approximately 23 kilometers (14.3 miles) north of the city of Sloviansk — one of Ukraine's last remaining strongholds in the region alongside Kramatorsk, the area's administrative center. Moscow captured Donetsk city itself back in 2014.

Kyiv had yet to respond to the claim at the time of publication. As with much battlefield reporting throughout this conflict, independent verification remains extremely difficult given active wartime conditions — a war that entered its fifth year just last month.
