Israel Shoots Down Iranian Fighter Jet Over Tehran
The IDF identified the aircraft as a YAK-130, describing its downing as a “historic first,” and noting that it marks the first time this particular type of fighter jet has been destroyed in combat anywhere in the world. The last confirmed Israeli air-to-air engagement occurred in 1985, when an Israeli F-15 shot down two Syrian MiG-23s over Lebanon.
In a separate statement, the IDF said it also targeted and neutralized Iranian air defense personnel who were reportedly attempting to operate systems against Israeli forces.
Meanwhile, Iranian media claimed that local air defenses had shot down an Israeli fighter jet during the same conflict, though no official confirmation has been provided regarding this report.
