Jordan's Foreign Minister, Saudi Counterpart to Meet in Riyadh

(MENAFN) Jordan's top diplomat launched urgent consultations in Riyadh Sunday as regional powers scramble to address deteriorating conditions in Gaza despite an existing truce agreement.

Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi arrived in the Saudi capital for high-level discussions with his counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, the Jordanian Foreign Ministry announced.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry indicated Safadi's discussions are expected to focus on ways to further develop relations between Jordan and Saudi Arabia, as well as fast-moving regional developments, particularly those related to the Gaza Strip.

Gaza remains under a precarious ceasefire arrangement implemented Oct. 10, which ended two years of Israeli military operations that claimed nearly 71,000 Palestinian lives—predominantly women and children—with more than 171,000 additional injuries documented since October 2023.

However, violence has persisted despite the truce. The Gaza Government Media Office reports the Israeli army has killed at least 401 Palestinians and injured 1,108 others in attacks since the ceasefire, according to the latest figures of the Gaza Government Media Office.

The ministerial meeting signals mounting regional concern over compliance with ceasefire terms and the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the besieged Palestinian territory.
