Russia Establishes Method to Sustain Oil Exports to India

(MENAFN) Russia has introduced a “very special mechanism” to ensure uninterrupted crude oil shipments to India, despite harsh tariffs imposed by the United States.

A high-ranking Russian diplomat based in New Delhi disclosed this development during a media briefing held on Wednesday.

Roman Babushkin, the deputy head of the Russian Embassy in India, stated during the press conference: “If Indian goods are facing difficulties entering the US market, the Russian market is welcoming Indian exports to the most extent possible.”

His comments reflect Moscow’s growing economic cooperation with New Delhi, especially at a time when India’s increasing intake of Russian oil during the ongoing Ukraine conflict has placed strain on its relationship with Washington.

The United States has implemented tariffs as high as 50% on certain imports, affecting trade dynamics.

Evgeny Griva, a commercial representative at the embassy, elaborated further, saying: "There is (a) mechanism (of) how to supply crude oil... it's really a very special mechanism."

This highlights Russia’s strategic intent to maintain energy flows to India in spite of external pressures.

India has described the sanctions from the Trump administration as “unfair and unjust,” voicing concerns over what it views as discriminatory trade practices.

In response to further queries, Babushkin emphasized: “Any kind of unilateral action leads to disruptions in supply chains, imbalance in pricing policies and destabilization of global markets, endangering the energy security of developing countries.”

He reiterated: “This pressure is just unjustified,” underlining Moscow’s opposition to unilateral economic restrictions.

Trade relations between India and Russia reached unprecedented levels last year, with bilateral trade soaring to $68.7 billion.

Of this, India imported approximately 88 million tons of crude oil from Russia, illustrating the depth of their energy partnership.

“We know about the challenging circumstances for India… We have earned the trust,” Babushkin concluded, affirming the strong strategic rapport between Moscow and New Delhi.
