Continuous floods claim lives of forty-three Pakistanis
(MENAFN) Ongoing heavy rains and widespread flooding have resulted in 43 additional fatalities in Pakistan over the past 24 hours, bringing the death toll since August 14 to 437, according to national and provincial disaster management authorities.
Of the latest deaths, 21 occurred in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which has recorded 377 flood-related fatalities over the past six days. Sindh province in the south reported 11 new deaths, while the northern Gilgit-Baltistan region also recorded 11 fatalities in the same period.
Authorities warned that torrential rainfall continues to affect the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and is expected to persist until Thursday. The southern port city of Karachi experienced heavy downpours on Tuesday, causing infrastructure damage and disrupting daily life in the country’s commercial hub.
The National Disaster Management Authority cautioned that additional heavy rains are forecast for Karachi and other districts of Sindh, raising the risk of further flooding. Rescue and relief efforts are ongoing in districts including Buner, Swat, and Swabi, where dozens of people remain missing. Buner, the hardest-hit district, recovered six more bodies, bringing its death toll to 228 since last Friday.
Since the start of this year’s monsoon season in late June, floods across Pakistan have killed approximately 748 people and injured over 1,000.
