Severe Flooding Devastates Yemen’s Aden
The downpour inundated several neighborhoods, flooding residences and commercial establishments, and bringing vehicular movement to a standstill—especially in the al-Mualla district, media reported, citing local residents.
Though witnesses confirmed injuries, authorities have not yet released an official casualty count.
Amid the escalating emergency, Aden Governor Ahmed Hamid Lamlas ordered health authorities to ensure comprehensive medical treatment for those injured in the floods, according to a statement from the Ministry of Information.
The ministry characterized the directive as part of “an urgent humanitarian response to the damage caused by bad weather, which struck several districts of Aden and left people injured.”
Amid the ongoing storm threat, the national meteorological agency issued fresh warnings, forecasting continued rainfall along Yemen’s eastern and southwestern coastal regions as well as the Red Sea corridor.
The agency called on citizens to remain vigilant, advising them to steer clear of flood-prone valleys, slippery dirt roads, and flowing watercourses.
The humanitarian impact of seasonal weather extremes continues to intensify in Yemen, where over a decade of conflict has severely compromised infrastructure and essential services, leaving communities especially vulnerable.
