Yemeni flash floods harm ten civilians

(MENAFN) Severe flooding struck Yemen’s southern port city of Aden on Tuesday after heavy rains, leaving at least 10 people injured and causing widespread property damage, according to local officials.

The downpour inundated neighborhoods, damaging homes and businesses while bringing traffic across the city to a halt, residents reported.

In response, Aden Governor Ahmed Hamed Lamlas issued emergency instructions for health authorities to treat the injured at government expense, state media said.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Forecasting and Early Warning Center cautioned that heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the coming hours across eastern and southwestern coastal regions as well as along the Red Sea. It urged citizens “to exercise caution,” warning against entering flood-prone valleys and channels and advising against travel on slick, muddy roads.

The destructive impact of the flooding has been magnified by Yemen’s fragile infrastructure, which has deteriorated after years of conflict between government forces and the Houthi group, leaving residents highly vulnerable to natural disasters.
